    Our Why

    Why We Couldn't Walk Away.

Me 1st Then Sports™ is CAREGD's Human Infrastructure™ initiative helping organizations strengthen the relationships surrounding every athlete.

Because athletes don't experience sports in isolation.

    Why We Exist

    Youth sports changed.
    The game changed.
    The pressure changed.
    So we changed too.

    Parents are carrying more.

    Coaches are carrying more.

    Organizations are carrying more.

    Athletes are carrying more.

We believe healthier relationships create healthier athletes. That's why CAREGD exists.

    Our Philosophy

Four beliefs that shape everything we build.

    01

    People > Performance

The person always comes before the play.

    02

    Relationships > Results

The scoreboard fades. The relationship stays.

    03

    Connection Before Correction™

You can't coach a kid you haven't checked in with.

    04

    Human Infrastructure™

The invisible support system every athlete deserves.

    The Founder Story

Why I had to check in.

I fell in love with sports when I was five years old.

By the age of nine, there wasn't a girls' basketball team for me to play on, so I joined the boys.

Sports became one of my greatest teachers.

    Resilience.
    Confidence.
    Leadership.
    Belonging.

That journey eventually led to a Division I basketball scholarship at the University of California, Berkeley.

    Sports changed my life.

But today's athletes are growing up in a very different game than I did.

    • The pressure starts younger.
    • Social media never turns off.
    • Recruiting begins earlier.
    • Families invest more than ever.
    • NIL conversations have reached youth and high school sports.
    • The transfer portal has changed expectations long before athletes ever reach college.

Too many young athletes feel like their value rises and falls with every performance.

Then two stories stopped me in my tracks.

    Bryce Gowdy.
    Alexis Marion.

Two lives lost to suicide on the same railroad tracks just two months apart.

Two heartbreaking reminders that talent, success, and potential do not protect someone from invisible struggles.

    Those tragedies changed me.

They forced me to ask a different question.

    Not…

"How do we build better athletes?"

    But…

"How do we make it easier for athletes to check in before the weight becomes too heavy to carry alone?"

Because athletes carry weight they should never have to carry by themselves.

Their sports experience includes an entire ecosystem.

    Parents.
    Coaches.
    Teammates.
    Schools.
    Organizations.
    Communities.

    They experience every conversation.
    Every expectation.
    Every car ride.
    Every sideline moment.

That realization became the foundation of Me 1st Then Sports™.

Today, Me 1st Then Sports™ helps organizations, parents, coaches, and communities intentionally strengthen the relationships that shape every athlete's experience.

Because when the people around an athlete are healthier, the athlete has a greater opportunity to thrive.

    That's Human Infrastructure™.

    People before performance.
    Relationships before results.

Because healthier adults help create healthier athletes.

Every athlete deserves someone who notices before they struggle.

    We Check In Loud
So People Stop Checking Out Quietly.

    What Makes CAREGD Different

Not another workshop. Not another curriculum. Not another survey.

    Others teach parents.

    We strengthen relationships.

    Others measure performance.

We strengthen the environment surrounding performance.

Others end when the workshop ends.

We continue the conversation all season.

    Others collect information.

    We build Human Infrastructure™.

Others ask, “How did you play?”

We ask, “How are you doing?”

    The Ecosystem

    One movement. Many doorways.

    Our Journey

    How the movement built itself.

    01

    Community Conversations

It started in gyms, parks, and neighborhoods — one honest talk at a time.

    02

    Listening to Athletes

Not asking how they played. Asking how they were doing.

    03

    Supporting Parents

The people carrying the invisible weight of the season.

    04

    Partnering with Coaches

The adults closest to the athlete experience.

    05

    Working with Organizations

Clubs, leagues, and schools shaping the environment around every athlete.
